Apre a Mumbai il National Museum of Indian Cinema.

Nestled in the upmarket suburb of Dogok, Seoul, sits the newly opened reinvention of Emart's “Star Super”: the "SSG Food Market". by Landini Associates

The brief was to create a world class supermarket and food hall fusion, and Landini Associates were entrusted to redesign every detail of the new store experience. This included: the built environment, naming and identity, signage and communications, ticketing, menus, advertising style guides, packaging and uniforms. In fact every customer touchpoint. The result is a convenient and accessible food lover’s heaven, where locals can do a daily or weekly shop, or dine at one of the many in-store restaurants and cafes. Attracting a newer younger audience, whilst rewarding its existing, the SSG Food Market is a community epicentre to meet, eat and shop in, throughout the day.

There’s even a Design Week Mexico and a couple of good design galleries working with local talents. But before MASA debuted with an exhibition of furniture and lighting by 15 of the city’s top artists and designers, there wasn’t really a definitive platform for contemporary experimental design, at least not one as ambitious as this. Which is exactly what motivated MASA’s founders — designers Héctor Esrawe and Brian Thoreen, curator Agé Salajõe, OMR gallery co-founder Cristobal Riestra, and collectors Roberto Díaz Sesma and Isaac Bissu

The entrance to the exhibition references Ponti's design for Taranto Cathedral, completed in 1970. It covers Ponti's six-decade career, from 1921 to 1978, and includes architectural and industrial designs, furniture and lighting, magazines, as well as his forays into glassware, ceramics and metalwork.

In the image: a desk with magazine rank designed by Ponti around 1958 is shown in walnut wood. The triple-height space of the main hall is divided into five sections featuring Ponti's commissions, furniture, lighting and textiles, and architectural projects. These are detailed through drawings and papier-mâché models, as well as photographs and film. The exhibition design, by Wilmotte & Associe%u0301s with signage by Italo Lupi, makes full use of the space. It includes tall white room dividers intersected with large-scale reproductions of Ponti's work and photographs of the man himself.

Manus Island

Iranian-Kurdish writer and asylum seeker Behrouz Boochani won Australia’s highest-paying literary prize for a book he wrote through WhatsApp texts while being held in a detention center in Papua New Guinea for five years. Called No Friend but the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison, the book was awarded the 2019 Victorian Prize for Literature, which grants the winning author 125,000 Australian dollars (~$90,000). Unlike previous winners, who include some of Australia’s most prominent writers, Boochani could not attend the ceremony to accept his award, as he remains in detention.

Boochani fled his home country of Iran in 2013 after the police there raided his office and arrested several of his journalist friends. He tried to reach Australia by boat, but the country’s Navy intercepted him and sent him to an offshore detention center on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, where he’s been held ever since. Boochani is among 600 refugees who remain in the island’s notoriously harsh camps despite Australia having closed its “regional processing center” in 2017. Under Australia’s migration policy, asylum seekers arriving by sea are barred from entering the country; detainees at offshore processing centers are told they’ll never settle on the mainland.
